The Impact of Regulatory Compliance on
Database Administration |
| |
Craig Mullins,
Neon |
| |
|
|
| |
Governmental regulations are increasing in number, and many of them impact the way organizations
must treat their data. Sarbanes-Oxley, HIPAA BASEL II, and more make the news, but what do they
mean to a DBA? This presentation will offer an overview of the regulations and their impact on
database administration. Topics to be discussed include:
What are the Regulations?
Compliance Issues
IT Controls
Long-term Data Retention
Database Auditing
Additional DBA Concerns

Null & Void? Dealing with Nulls in DB2
for z/OS |
| |
Craig Mullins,
Neon |
| |
|
|
| |
Nulls are one of the most controversial aspects of SQL database systems.
On the one hand, they seem to be useful as a means to record missing
information; on the other hand, they introduce
three-valued logic and other difficulties into our applications. This presentation
will delve into the various aspects of nulls, show some of the problems
presented by nulls, and give advice
on how best to use/avoid them.

Performance Management and Capacity Planning |
| |
Nghi
Eakin, IBM Global Services |
| |
|
|
| |
This presentation introduces key SMF data which can be used to observe the various components in the
z/OS environment in which DB2 operates. DB2 workload performance could be impacted by the performance
of the supporting infrastructure (CPU, memory, Workload Manager policy, the IO subsystem, Coupling
Facility, zIIP engine) and DB2 requesters (CICS, IMS, DDF, etc.). This presentation will show charts
built from the SMF data of various customers' production environments to show the benefits of looking
beyond DB2.

Java Stored Procedures - Getting the Environment
Ready |
| |
John Lantz,
Federal Reserve Board |
| |
|
|
| |
The Federal Reserve Board has recently enabled the development of Java stored procedures on the
mainframe in their environment using the Development Center. This presentation goes through the steps
to set up that environment. It will include the steps necessary from a system programmer perspective,
the DBA perspective, as well as that of the application programmer. It will include some of the
problems encountered so that you can avoid the same issues.
