Are you an experienced z/OS DBA, but you are new to DB2 for LUW? If so, this session is for you. Often at a conference, you will find a lot of great sessions on advanced performance tuning, monitoring, backup/recovery, but sometimes we forget about people that are new to DB2 LUW and need some level setting first. In this session, Chris will take you through some of the basics of DB2 from storage management, to backup and recovery management to the processes model for DB2 and some simple diagnostics. Walk away with a translation guide for z/OS to LUW speak. |

Drawing materials from experiences implementing, tuning, and training organizations in the use of DB2 Connect, the presentation will cover platform architecture, DB2 Connect configuration parameters, DB2 for z/OS DSNZPARMs, troubleshooting, and tuning. Case studies from large scale DB2 Connect healthchecks will be included. |

Take I-95 South and exit Rt. 175 West (exit 41B). Travel 6 miles on 175 West. After crossing Rt. 29, go through 5 lights. After the 5th light, make first left onto Wincopin Circle. The Sheraton Columbia Hotel and Conference Center is located at the end of the Wincopin Circle, on the lake. - From Washington and South
Take I-495 East to I-95 to Rt. 32 West. Travel 3 miles North to Rt. 29 North. Travel 2 miles on Rt. 29 North to Broken Land Parkway (exit 18B). Follow signs for Columbia Town Center to Little Patuxent Parkway. Turn right and go through 3 lights. Wincopin Circle is on the right. Go to second entrance of Wincopin Circle and turn right. The Sheraton Columbia Hotel and Conference Center is located at the end of Wincopin Circle, on the lake.

- Chris Eaton is a DB2 Technical Evangelist for DB2 primarily focused on planning and strategy for DB2 for LUW. Chris has been working with DB2 on the Linux, UNIX, Windows platform for over 17 years. From customer support to development manager, to Externals Architect and now as Product Manager for DB2, Chris has spent his career listening to customers and working to make DB2 a better product. Chris is the author of "IBM DB2 9 New Features" and "The High Availability Guide for DB2" and has one of the most popular blogs about DB2 on IT Toolbox at it.toolbox.com/blogs/db2luw.
- David Beulke is an internationally recognized DB2 consultant, author, and teacher, known for his extensive expertise with database performance, data warehouses, and internet applications. He is an inaugural member of IBM’s DB2 Data Champions program, one of the 45 IBM DB2 Gold Consultants worldwide, past president of the International DB2 Users Group (IDUG), columnist for DB2 Magazine for the last 8 years, co-author of the IBM V7 and V8 z/OS DB2 Certification exams, co-author of the Business Intelligence Certification exam, former instructor for The Data Warehouse Institute (TDWI), and former editor of the IDUG Solutions Journal.
